Credit cards are out of our wallets!

January 26th, 2011 at 02:08 pm

That's right....we took the credit cards out of each of our wallets....even had a little ceremony as we tucked them into the safe. Until doing our budget and "giving every dollar a job" we used these cards as our safety net. Just a couple weeks ago I had to put a bunch of household necessities from Target onto the credit card because our balance on the debit card was too low and was denied. I felt awful! Not anymore!

From now on we are only getting rid of debt, not making more. Period.

That is great. I hid all my cards away also. No more credit cards for me in 2011. I am trying to make sure I have all of my categories covered. Last year, I thought I did, but totally forgot about Christmas, which I put on a credit card (who forgets about Christmas - well I did); and my husband was laid off the week of Thanksgiving. He is back to work now so we are working on getting our debt out of the way, along with making sure we have any foreseable events and categories covered.

That is awesome. I put my credit cards in a ziploc bag filled with water and froze them. It makes it harder to get to them.

Congratulations on getting rid of those credit cards...that's the single best thing you can do to stop overspending! After the first week or so of discomfort, you will love it!!
