Half.com?

April 3rd, 2007 at 09:39 pm

I recently found out about Half.com and was wondering if anyone here has used it. I have a bunch of books and CDs that I would be willing to part with but am wondering if it is worth the hassle of packaging and mailing. What do you think? Any words of caution? I am generally overly cautious about this kind of thing but the extra income at this point would be greatly welcomed.

I've used it in the past to sell unwanted books and I've had no problems with them. I need to go through my books again and list some more!

I've sold quite a few books, some VHS tapes and a couple of DVDs. The only problem I ever had was one book was quite heavy and the postage allowance they assigned wasn't enough to cover my actual shipping cost. There have been a couple of other times where they paid more than my actual cost, so it all balances out. I think it is a very good service overall.

My most recent experience was just 2 weeks ago. My wife tossed a book in the give-away pile of clothing. We give the clothes to Purple Heart Veterans but I decided to put the book on half.com. It sold 5 days later! Can't beat that.

I use it all the time. The hard part is figuring out a fair price to charge. Its not a huge hassle to ship or anything..all of what I sell is similar in size, so I have a stack of the padded mailers that fit cds/dvds, and then some recycled bubble wrap and paper grocery bags that I use to wrap dvd sets and hardback books. Everything gets shipped media mail, so thats not a huge deal.
